IELTS introduction

IELTS was one of the pioneers of four skills English language testing over 25 years ago, and continues to set the standard for English language testing today. It is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment.
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a test that measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work in environments where English is used as a language of communication. An easy-to-use 9-band scale clearly identifies proficiency level, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).
It is the world’s most popular English language test. More than two million IELTS tests are taken each year. It is the high-stakes English test for study,migration or work. Taking IELTS opens doors – it can help you live, study and work around the world. More than 9,000 organisations in over 135 countries accept IELTS, including government, academic and employment institutions. It is the only English language test accepted for immigration purposes by all countries that require one. IELTS test is available on 48 fixed dates a year – up to four times a month on Thursdays and Saturdays – depending on local demand. 

Academic or General Training

IELTS is available in two test formats – Academic or General Training – and provides a valid and accurate assessment of the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
